Until very recently, Google displayed Local Search and Google Maps listings for queries with location-specific searches like "Saint Marys, GA Carpet Cleaning". or "Jacksonville pizza".
Google is now automatically determining a searchers location based on IP (internet protocol) address and showing them local results even when the region isn't specified in the query. That means that searching for carpet cleaning or pizza returns local search results targeted to your location. On the left is "Saint Marys GA carpet cleaning" on the right is "carpet cleaning":
